control.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I’ve ended up removing it from his room partly because he started grabbing it (highly amusing to watch!), but also because I didn’t want to perpetually keep a device emitting who knows what signals right next to him. We’re past the “paranoid parent” phase now so whilst it served its purpose well, we just don’t need it any longer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You’re right, the dedicated baby monitoring items sold in stores are a rip off. I also want to be able to make the feed available to external viewers with a password so that we can use it as a webcam and my parents can dial in see baby sleeping :). It doesn’t produce any noticeable ambient light, it just illuminates the LEDs and you need to be looking directly at them to notice. Out little guy looks at it sometimes but it doesn’t seem to distract him. Most of the time he’s either rolling around or asleep. The green light you see at the bottom in the photo on my blog is just a status indicator which I’ve covered up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you were worried about the baby staring at it you could always remotely rotate it then spin it back when you were done. Or even mount it behind the baby where it’s not so obvious but you can still monitor them. I’m still very happy with it and reckon it’s a bargain price with not much to lose if you don’t like it.
