Weekly Update 67

It's Xmas! Well, it was Xmas but I (and hopefully you too) am still in that Xmas period haze where it's hard to tell one day from the next. Apparently, it's also hard to remember to hit record before talking about this week's updates so yeah, good one Troy! But I did eventually record a full update and in an otherwise slow news week, I thought I'd talk a little bit about Xmas down under in Australia. About 93% of visitors to my blog this year have been from other parts of the world (most notabl...

Weekly Update 66

This week, it's all about fixing data breaches. Following on from my Congressional testimony last month, I committed to writing about how we can address the root causes which has led to the 5-part epic that was this week's posts. These posts consumed a huge amount of time this week which is why the weekly update is going up a day late, but it's here now and it's a whopper! iTunes podcast [https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/troy-hunts-weekly-update-podcast/id1176454699] | Google Play Music pod...

Weekly Update 65

I actually got a lot of writing done this week! Plus travelled to Sydney and then Melbourne to speak at a couple of events so that's a pretty good week IMHO. What's especially good is that there's no more flights or hotel rooms in 2017 for me! As for this week, there's a bunch of stuff around a new Pluralsight course, my dismay with Face ID and a bit of taking a UK bank to task. That last one actually had a good end result too so I'm pretty happy about that ? iTunes podcast [https://itunes.app...

Weekly Update 64

Home. The US Congress trip was an epic experience but man it's nice to be back! I got home early Monday morning after a 34-hour door-to-door commute and have spent the last 4 days trying to readjust which means being dead tired by 8pm then up at 4am. Fun times. Anyway, this week is all about British politicians sharing their passwords. Yeah, I know, but it turns out it's actually a thing. I'm still not sure if it's for productivity purposes, to hide the odd porn habit or just a symptom of ignor...

Weekly Update 63 (US Congress Edition)

Last week, I was sitting next to a croc-infested river in the middle of nowhere (relatively speaking). This week, I'm in front of the United States Capital having just spoken to the very people who create the laws that govern not just the US but let's face it, have a significant impact on the rest of the world. Today was just one of those moments that make you go... whoa. But it was an awesome day. Everything went smoothly, I said all the major things I wanted to say and everyone seemed happy f...

Weekly Update 62 (Rockhampton Edition)

This is going to be a couple of weeks of polar opposite updates: This week I'm in Rockhampton, a regional centre in my home state where I'm surrounded by gum trees, chirping birds and a croc-invested river. Next week will be Washington DC where I'll have just finished testifying in front of US Congress. Whoa. That's the big story this week. This year. This career. It's both a massive thing and a walk in the park, the former because it's testifying in front of freakin' congress and the latter be...

Weekly Update 61

A bit of a "business as usual" week this one, but then this business is never really "usual"! I start out with a talk at McAfee's MPOWER conference in Sydney and a bit of chatter about some upcoming ones (including the one I still can't talk about... but will next week!) In terms of new things, I've now got my hands on an iPhone X so I spend a bunch of time talking about that. It only arrived yesterday so I'm still learning and forming opinions, but early feedback is that I love this phone! Wel...

Weekly Update 60

Loads of bits and pieces this week ranging from travel (including something truly awesome that I can't go into detail on just yet) to Report URI to HIBP. There's also the competition for the Lenovo ThinkPad where I talk about the 4 finalists and if you're reading this within about 18 hours of me posting it, you can still vote for them here: > It's time to vote! I've picked the best 4 projects using the @haveibeenpwned [https://twitter.com/haveibeenpwned?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw] API to do some reall...

Weekly Update 59

I've actually had a day off today. Well mostly - I am still writing this piece and publishing a data breach - but I've pretty much spent the day between pool, beach and jet ski hence my being a bit dishevelled today ? Be that as it may, it's been a massive week and that's primarily due to the launch of Report URI V2 and in particular, the announcement that I've joined Scott in running the project. I've contributed dollars, social leverage and expertise because I genuinely think it's an awesome...

Weekly update 58

I'm between (short domestic) trips, I'm playing with my new iPad and I'm working on something really, really cool I'm going to be talking about next week. Seriously, this is a big thing that's been in the works for a while now and I'll be covering it in detail in the next update. For now, I've caught up on the whole IoT warning thing I totally overlooked last week. Frankly, it's just as well given how long that one was, the whole South Africa situation is still a very serious incident that has...
